We’re always looking for new ways to improve your (and our) environmental footprint and maximize your bottom line. A new trend abuzz in the business world – the “circular economy,” which promotes a restorative or regenerative system in which all products are designed and marketed with reuse and recycling in mind. We use it every day to help you achieve your goals for sustainability and growth.
This new business model represents a paradigm shift from linear, take-make-waste patterns of production and consumption to a circular approach with built-in restorative steps. It goes beyond “cradle-to-cradle,” mimicking nature by designing and marketing products to last – to be reused, recycled and re-imagined.
It is at the heart of our own eco-engineering system. Our printing processes are engineered with built-in attributes that create continuous, environmentally responsible steps designed to deliver your print products efficiently, cost-effectively and sustainably. We power our presses with 100-percent wind-generated energy, and we utilize green chemistry principles to minimize or eliminate VOCs (volatile organic compounds) and HAPs (hazardous air pollutants). The lower the percentage of both, the better it is for the environment.
As your print partner, we are always looking for new paper and plastic choices that provide the best aesthetic and eco-friendly results for your print communications. Our range of papers is certified to meet one or more international forestry standards (FSC®, SFI® and PEFC™). They are chlorine free, carbon managed, and climate balanced. You have a choice of virgin or recycled paper with varying levels of pre-consumer waste content, from 10% to 100%. We also offer alternatives, like our new Step Forward™ paper that’s made from 60% wheat-straw waste and 40% FSC-certified wood fiber.
For products with plastic components, we have Earth•Everlit® – our patent-pending alternative to petroleum-based PVCs. It’s made of 100% PET (polyethylene terephthalate) resin, recycled with up to 50% post-consumer PET sourced from recycled water bottles, and completely recyclable. We’re now exploring new options for bio-based plastic substrates.
The inks and coatings we use are primarily vegetable based and emit little or no VOCs – again, better for the environment. Our inks and coatings are recyclable, enabling your projects to enter the recycling waste stream at the end of their life cycle.
All of our materials and processes are designed to ensure that your print communications ultimately become part of the recycling stream to be down-cycled into lower grade papers and products, with the potential of being converted to bio-based fuels at the end of a sustainable supply chain.
Every decision we make with you during the production process keeps the end game in mind. Your print projects must meet all of your marketing and business objectives for your products, efficiently and cost effectively. They must also forward our mutual journey to improve our environmental footprint and ensure a more sustainable Earth.
All of these factors are in line with the objectives and principles of a future worldwide Circular Economy.
