EarthColor at Graph Expo ‘15 (and Why You Should Care)

If something significant is happening in the industry, EarthColor is there. That was no exception at Graph Expo 2015, one of the printing industry’s largest trade shows, held September 13-16 in Chicago. Attending Graph Expo from EarthColor were Robert Kashan, CEO, Bruce Wexler, President, and Cheryl Kahanec, EVP-Digital. Kahanec shares her insights on the upcoming industry trends.

On the first day of the show, Kahanec attended Printing Impressions’ Gold Ink Awards Gala where EarthColor’s client Bellagio was honored for its dimensional piece “Resort & Casino Las Vegas 2015 New Year’s Eve Invitation.” Two days later, Kahanec sat for two video interviews with Cary Sherburne of What They Think, where she discussed industry trends and the upcoming drupa 2016 in Düsseldorf, Germany. Those interviews will be posted along with those of other key industry leaders in What They Think’s video section next month.

But Kahanec’s primary purpose for attending Graph Expo wasn’t promotional. It was to keep EarthColor’s thumb on the pulse of industry. Attending major industry shows like this allows EarthColor to track the newest, most relevant technology and keep clients ahead of the curve.

“It helps us keep track of what manufacturers are up to,” explained Kahanec, taking a break from the busy show floor in Chicago. “Not just what they have today, but what the future looks like a few years out. They bring their equipment and services to the show floor, and we can get live demos on any technology we are interested in.”

Indeed, Kahanec was booked nearly every hour looking at everything from new hardware capabilities to cutting-edge software, especially in the areas of integration and workflow automation. “In just a few days, I can get a crash course on what would otherwise take weeks or months to research,” she said. “There is no other opportunity like it.”

    It is important to learn about different types of digital printing. I think that it is important to be able to find the right exposure. Learning about digital printing is a great way to develop this skill.
