What does being “green” really mean? Some service providers consider soft-proofing to be environmentally-friendly as the consumables, energy, and transportation costs associated with hard-proofs is eliminated. Digital printing can be considered “green” as on-demand printing results in printing only what is necessary, thus eliminating waste. Implementing green policies through certifications and the use of sustainable harvested forest products, post-consumer waste papers, and chlorine-free bleaching products are also common ways to describe printers being green. This paper outlines the various ways that our industry (graphic communications) wears green.
